ZMG Team upsets number 2 seeds at Wimbledon in epic match

In one of the doubles matches of the 2008 Wimbledon Championships, the American pair of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears have pulled of a stunning upset defeating the number 2 seeded team of Sugiyama and Srebotnik 3-6 6-2 11-9.

After qualifying for the event, saving match points in the

first round and losing the first set against the very

experienced team and number 2 seeds. The team of Kops-Jones

and Spears would have been forgiven for being happy at just being

there and making up the numbers. But after breaking back early and holding on to claim the second set, the pair battled and found themselves up 5-4, then 6-5 in the third. Having never found themselves in this position before, playing against the number 2 seeds at Wimbledon and being past 6-6 in a third set, Kops-Jones and Spears stumbled and surrendered their lead to go down a break and match points at 7-8, not only to fight with Kops-Jones nailing a return winner down the line, they then found themselves in a huge deficit down a match point and 8-9 on the scoreboard. But like all great matches, there was one more swing and with the support of the crowd hanging around to cheer on the underdogs, Kops-Jones and Spears gave them what they wanted with an inspiring victory, winning the match 11-9 in the third set.

It was a remarkable effort from the team who battled through qualifying and saved match points in the first round to notch their first career victory against a number 2 seed in a grand slam and make their first ever 3 rd round at Wimbledon !!
